ABOUT Genta Bhuana Sari Group

Sekaa Gong Genta Bhuana Sari was founded in 1992 by Ir. A.A. Gede Oka Dalem at Puri Kaleran, Peliatan. Oka Dalem decided to establish a children’s gamelan and dance group because he believed that children should be introduced to music and dance from a very young age.

As a result, a gamelan and dance group for elementary school children was formed (Sekaa Anak-anak SD), and they began their activities by learning to play the Gong Kebyar gamelan orchestra and performing barong-barongan for Galungan, Kuningan, and other religious festivals.

After undergoing intensive practice and training in gamelan and dance for a period of time, this group began to be invited to perform for social functions and religious ceremonies. Today, most of Genta Bhuana Sari’s musicians and dancers are no longer of elementary school age, and the members consist of young people from Peliatan village, many of whom were original founding members of the group.

Sekaa Gong Genta Bhuana Sari is still active today, and performs on a regular basis for a variety of events. These include presenting routine tourist performances at Balerung every Tuesday evening, as well as performing for state ceremonies, religious festivals, commercial events, and social gatherings when requested.

At present Genta Bhuana Sari has 45 members aged between 10 and 35 years , consisting of:

1992	Founding of Genta Bhuana Sari
1995	Performed for the Flower Festival (Hanahaku) in Osaka, Japan
1995	Represented Bali Province in the International Gamelan Festival at Prambanan, Yogyakarta (27th – 31st December)
1996	Participated in the 18th Balinese Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali XVIII – PKB)
1996	Represented Gianyar in a Cultural Appreciation event (7th October)
1999	Represented Gianyar in 21st Balinese Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali XXI), for which they received the Adikara Nugraha award
1999	Represented Bali in the Parade of Regional Dances (Parade Tari Daerah ) held annually at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta. For their performance in this event, they were declared the grand champions, and awarded the rotating trophy (the Presidents wife’s cup) as well as a trophy from Minister of Tourism and Culture.
2001	Participated in the 23rd Balinese Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali XXIII)
2002	Provided musical accompaniment (gamelan) for a graduate student performing a new dance choreography to fulfill final examination requirements at Sekolah Tinggi Seni Indonesia (STSI = ISI Denpasar), i.e. the Indonesian University of Fine Arts.
